Paradise Kiss - (spoilers if you plan on watching/reading)

So, I was re-watching Paradise Kiss while sewing the last couple of days and just sort of noticing the differences from the anime and manga (which I've read so many times they are getting worn out). There are a couple of things that I noticed the first time around, such as the style. I kind of feel like Ai Yazawa's style didn't translate very well to animation. I also noticed that the animation quality was not as high as perhaps other animes. During the runway scene, the clothes and hair are hardly animated at all, but are just a static drawing moved up and down to suggest walking. I think for a show that is so focused on clothes they could have put the extra effort into that scene.

However, all these pale in comparison to the last unfortunate difference that I did not notice until the second time of watching this show - in the end of the anime it isn't made clear that Yukari is engaged to Tokumori. Perhaps in the anime she isn't engaged to him. But that was a big problem for me because Tokumori/Yukari solves two things: one, that the ending is totally sad with George out of the picture, and two, in my opinion Tokumori sort of represents the guy that Yukari "should" have been with, the guy that was taking care of her without getting credit for it, waiting in the wings with his unrequited love. I guess it also solves the Miwako/Arashi/Tokumori love triangle. So, I'm not really sure why they decided to do that, but there it is.

I also kind of like it that way, because I can't really decide if I like Yukari/George or Yukari/Tokumori better. :3 I like both! Just like how it is in the manga. ;)

Maybe I just over-analyze things, but it's my favorite manga, and I like to analyze things. :)

Anime Expo 2010 con report!

Jul. 5th, 2010 | 11:00 am

mood: amused amused

So, my husband and I went to AX this year for two days, Fri/Sat. Unfortunately, we were both morons and didn't remember to bring the camera, so there will be no photos. D: Perhaps later we will do a mini photo shoot together. We went as Mai and Sokka from Avatar (a weird couple of characters since they don't interact much, but oh well).

Moar report!Collapse )

Overall, there definitely were some low points and some high points, I may try fanime next year, since I think organizationally this one has gotten a bit out of hand.

2010 Cosplay Goals

Jan. 3rd, 2010 | 04:29 pm
location: new home: Oxnard
mood: motivated

So, I decided to post about my cosplay/convention goals for this year. The costumes I plan to make, the conventions I plan to attend, etc. Let's get started!

For many reasons, we (Curtis, Robbie, and I) have decided not to attend Ani-Magic this year. :( BUT what that means is that we can take on a multi-day Anime Expo extravaganza! :D If something amazing happens, we may also attend Sakura con in Seattle, but that is mostly a wistful dream. Someday, just not this year.

As far as costumes go, I have, as always, many things I would like to make. But I have critically evaluated what is most important, and feasible, and here is what my goals are:

1. Artbook Euphemia from Code Geass (the one with CC, Suzaku, and Lelouch): I loved Code Geass, I really liked Euphemia's character, the dress is gorgeous, plus, she's a princess! What more could I ask for?

2. After creating J's Katara costume and all of us watched a lot of Avatar together, we decided it would be really fun to do an Avatar group. So, I will be making Mai (Me), Sokka (Curtis), and Zuko (Robbie). If by the off-chance we can convince my sister to join us, she would be an adorable Tai Lee. So that would be one more to make.

3. If I really manage to finish ALL that, I would like to make a Rosebride dress from Utena (the pink version that Utena wears in the ending theme).

I know it's pretty ambitious, but the Avatar costumes won't be too hard. I think I will recruit some friend help in the cutting dept. (and maybe some simple sewing or accessories as well) If we are doing such a full-scale operation like this one, I can't be a one-woman sweatshop! ;)

Ani-Magic/Autumn Dream 2009!

Yay! and only 3 months after the fact, is my Autumn Dream 2009 convention report!

This con definitely had its highs...and its lows...but overall was a great experience! I successfully brainwashed...I mean, introduced my third person to the wonderful world of cosplay! I don't know if she wants her name up here, so I'll just call her J. ;)

So, construction-wise, this con went WAAAY smoother than AX. I worked on everything ahead of time, paced myself, and made sure I didn't take on too many projects. I had to make J a Katara (from Avatar) costume, and me a Mugi (from K-ON!) costume and wig (my first time styling a wig!!!). Oh, and I also had to adjust Robbie's jacket since it was waay to big on him and fix his tie that kinda looked like poop at AX.

I can't remember all the details since a lot has happened in these last 3 months (a move, trying to pull together graduation requirements, etc.) so some of it may be broad generalizations:

Anime Expo 2009!

I was really excited to be able to attend AX this year, since I didn't think I was going to be able to due to budget, etc. But then Curtis and I house-sat for some relatives and they paid us (totally not necessary but they insisted) so we were able to go!

The week beforehand I was working like a mad sweatshop lady getting 3 costumes completely done for me, Curtis, and our friend Robbie who we have connived into becoming an anime fan AND cosplayer! And I did it! However, at 3AM the day before the con, I went to hem my dress (last thing to do) and I totally messed it up by cutting off too much. I then proceeded to have a breakdown b/c it looked so good before I ruined it. But I decided to wear it anyways, after I had worked so hard on it. Seriously, the week leading up to the con I did NOTHING but eat, sleep, and sew.

hold on, to that dream...Collapse )

All in all this was a fun, low-pressure con. I would definitely love to go again next year!!

Hey Everyone! +journal overhaul!

mood: refreshed refreshed

Hello, lovelies!

So, I'm not sure if anyone reads or checks this anymore, but since I generally now use myspace as my "keeping up with everyone" method, I am going to revamp my livejournal as a cosplay-only journal. So, basically the posts will all be cosplay, costuming or convention-related material only. If you're NOT interested in any of these things, you may want to consider dropping me from your FL.

On that note, I will be posting a convention report of Ani-Magic/Autumn Dream 2008 SOON! yay! :D

Also, photos from cosplays are up on myspace, so feel free to look at them for now!

I watched the movie "Waiting" last night for the first time.

omgosh it's so gross and hilarious at the same time. And some stuff was SO much more aggravating than it should have been because I'm a waitress. The scene where they show all the different things the staff says ("would you like dessert with that?" "hi, I'm amy and I'll be taking care of you today" "Is everything alright?") is totally how I feel some nights. Just one line after another that you have to choke down. PLUS the Naomi character (the bitchy one) TOTALLY reminds me of 2 girls I used to work with. There's a part where she's bitching and cussing all through the alley, then as soon as she turns the corner to the dining room, its a plastered smile and sickening sweetness. I felt they could have more thoroughly gone into different types of aggravating guests and how insane it is when it gets super busy, but they kinda wanted to go more the american pie/scary movie route. I mean, c'mon they spent waay to much time focusing on the "show your penis" game.

on another note, the twins turn 17 today! I feel so old. Imagine how my mother feels. :p yay, congrats!

New CTs

Sep. 19th, 2007 | 10:27 pm
mood: irritated irritated

so at work today I found out that we have like 8 new certified trainers. These people train new employees in their designated position. It is considered kind of like a promotion (even thought it's not), and you have a bit of a higher standing with the company.

Well, the new server CTs consist of:

-2 people who don't speak english very well (which is bad for an english-taught-english-speaking class)
-1 person who doesn't know all the ingredients/dishes very well
-1 person who was FIRED and now rehired a month ago
-1 person who has only worked here like 3 months

my question is - why was I not even considered?! I've never had a write up, I have worked with the company for a year, I am a hard worker and I pretty much try to follow all of the rules (even on large parties, which some of those rules are pretty ridiculous). AND, not to be cocky, but I AM pretty smart.

I'm thinking that they may be thinking that my personality is too timid to do these classes. But 2 of the new CTs have pretty mild personalities to begin with, and I'm NOT timid, I am anti-confrontational.

So, basically I am pretty irritated and this kind of hurts my feelings. Maybe I will try to talk to Ben about it. Maybe I was simply overlooked.
